How to put Kindle Preview of your book directly into your webpage

How to embed a preview of your Kindle Book directly into your webpage

Have you ever thought that it would be nice if visitors could sample your Kindle Book without ever leaving your blog? By using the  Kindle Cloud Reader your readers are already in love with the story and are eager to  click on your buy-this-at-Amazon link, and plunk down dollars to read the rest.
Sure, you can copy the first couple chapters into a blog post, but wouldn’t it be more fun to have a special “Kindle Preview” right on your site?

How?

Well, the people over at Amazon.com have developed a free tool- the Kindle Cloud Reader, to help Kindle author’s connect with readers by sharing free samples of their work.

Sometimes the best tool you have to market your eBook is the content of your book itself. Readers can already download a free preview of any Kindle book through Amazon but you can do one better. You can actually embed the Kindle Cloud Reader into your website and Presto! your potential customers can start to read your eBook before they even leave your website. Once you have them hooked, it’s only one click from within the widget to purchase the book through Amazon.
Embedding a previewer into your website is very easy. This is the cloud reader displaying Lynn Langtry’s kindle book The Treasure of My Heart An Adventure in Costa Rica

To make one of your own, simply click the Embed button in the top right hand corner of my widget.

In the window that pops up, select Customize. Once there, you can change the size to whatever works best for your site. Optionally add your Amazon Associate Tag so that you’ll get a referral credit for any sales that result (which is a handy way to track how well this widget is working at generating sales). But most important step of all is to change the ASIN to the Amazon Standard Identification Number for the book you want to embed. If you don’t know this off the top of your head, you can find it on the Amazon product page for your book. This will change the widget from one displaying my book to one displaying yours.

Once you’ve made those changes, copy the newly revised code from the text box and add it to your own website.Just insert the code  in your page or post where you want the Cloud Reader to be. Presto! Now your visitors can start reading your book without ever leaving your website making it that much more likely they’ll purchase it.

Once you’ve added the code to your website, leave a link below so we can see it in action! I’m hoping we’ll amass plenty of examples of how to make the most of this handy widget.

I can help you do this send me an email at susanne@asksusanne.com

Publish Ebook through Amazon or On My Own?

asksusanne.com publish

How do I publish my ebook? Should I go through Amazon or do it on my own?”

The answer is “both.” You want to have your content available in as many formats as you can because you want to provide as many readers as you can with the format they prefer.

You can create a PDF version of your MS Word document and either sell it from your website or give it to members of one of your programs. A PDF version of your book is also a great tool to give as an advanced review copy to people who would like to give your book a review or endorsement.

There are many places where you can publish your book online, including Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, and Kobo. You’ll also want to have your eBook formatted for Kindle and publish it to Amazon. Amazon has the highest traffic flow and sells more books of all online book stores. In today’s market, that’s where the action is happening for authors.

As an author on Amazon, you receive a page on Amazon called Author’s Central. There you’ll find about 12 or so different ways that you can promote your message, share about yourself and your book, and connect with you audience in written, and video formats. Your Amazon Author’s Central page gives you a lot of exposure.

Having your eBook published in multiple formats is most beneficial.

One Way to Effectively Market Your Kindle Book

Effective Marketing of your Kindle Books

Today the most effective way to market  our Kindle books – is video promotion. People love watching short videos.

Imagine being able to record, edit, optimize (automatically for any device), add clickable links in the video to your books, (links to share them with Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and Pinterest, among others), publish and market your videos.. all from one piece of software?

That has never been possible before, but it is now. Josh Bartlett releases Easy Video Suite (yes, a whole suite of video tools) on January 15.

But the fun part is they are having a CONTEST!

Lots of great prizes to be awarded check this out

new wordpress Elvin is here

WordPress.org came out with a new update to their software: WordPress 3.5.  Each time a major release comes out, they dedicate it to a Jazz musician.  This one is dedicated to the drummer Elvin Jones.  Here is a short video from WordPress.org  with highlights of the new version:

Some of the new features in WordPress 3.5 are:

  • New Media Manager
  • New Theme – Twenty Twelve
  • Admin Enhancements
  • Retina Ready
  • Accessibility for devices
  • Color picker

Here are the steps I go through to Update WordPress:

Before I do ANYTHING, I wait a few days for the dust to settle and see if a newer version has come out.  i.e. 3.5.1

1) First, I backup my WordPress Website with a Backup Plugin

2) Second, I update my plugins before I update to the latest WordPress

3) Third,  I update the WordPress Software from inside the admin dashboard.

4) Fourth,  I check to see if any plugins can be updated if they are compatible with the latest version of WordPress. If so I update those.
Generally this can take a few days while the plugin programmers update their plugins.

5) Fifth,  I click around my site in the admin to check out the new features, and then I click around on the outside of my site to make sure everything looks ok.

It’s also very  important to have a hosting company that understands how to handle WordPress.
I have found that HostGator (my affiliate link) to be the best at this!  They know a lot about WordPress, and can explain things to you in simple English on the phone. All my sites are hosted by Hostgator and the help is exceptional especially at 3:00 am when things go wrong.

Book tour Book Review: The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap by Paulette Mahurin

persecution of mildred dunlap-asksusanne.com

Book Description

The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap by Paulette Mahurin

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for gross indecency under Britain’s recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When news of Wilde’s conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wilde’s imprisonment. It is a chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing.

The dialogue in this story was so compelling.. I had to read it in one sitting. Mildred and Edra have a secret that consumes their lives trying to hide it. In the end it is friendship with an unlikely person that allows Mildred and Edra to be at peace.

Also very unique was the Oscar Wilde quotes at the beginning of each chapter. Rather enjoyed that feature.

Excerpt

Mildred was irritated as she rode back to her ranch. “How are we
ever going to work this out, Lil?” she mumbled to her painted horse.
“That man is not making this easy.”
She was annoyed with herself that she decided to help Charley but
did not know what else to do. She hated drawing attention to herself and
being subjected to ridicule. She looks and acts like a man. Look at that
receding hairline; she’s going bald. She’s a fat pig. Even worse, she
resented talk of her cousin, Edra. What a hermit. She’ll never get over
what happened to her. This she could not forgive. She knew that in
devising her plan she had to swallow all this and come across as credibly
as she could in showing an interest in Charley. Compared to the
alternative, of doing nothing and being found out, it was a small price
to pay.

From the time I was ten year old, I’ve loved to write. While in college I wrote two award winning short stories. This encouraged me to continue to write, and write I did but never completed any of my novels due to other responsibilities: education, jobs, family, etc. After attending and receiving a Master’s Degree in the Nurse Practitioner Program at UCLA, I went to work in the second busiest emergency room in Los Angeles county. I saw and learned about things that haunted me, until bit by a tick and diagnosed with Lyme Disease (which went to my heart valves, brain, and muscular skeletal system) knocked me down and afforded me time to write and release the memories onto pages before me. I wrote, and wrote, and released what was stored inside, which finally gave way to a story that was to change my life, The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap. When I began to feel better, I joined a writing class, in Ojai, CA, where I live. The teacher, Deb Norton (screenwrite/playwrite of The Whole Banana) had us do an exercise involving a photo. We were to write a 10 minute mystery. The photo I picked was of two women huddled close together in clothing that looked circa turn of the twentieth century. I made them a Lesbian couple trying to avoid being found out. In my research, I came across Oscar Wilde’s imprisonment. Britain had recently changed it’s laws to make homosexual activity, a man having sex with another man, a criminal offense resulting in a two year hard labor prison sentence. The combination of the photo from that writing class and Oscar Wilde’s imprisonment were the seeds that started the story, six years in the making. For those six years, I studied Wilde, the history of Lesbians, western settlement in the United States, and I opened to what it must have been like to live in fear of being persecuted because of the nature of one’s existence, that can no more be changed than the color of grass. As I wrote, I saw myself in the characters who I dialogued with, related with as if we were friends today, and in doing this I learned that external factors may change (the environment, technology, family relating, etc.) but the nature of the human condition and how we manifest remains the same. There will always be stories to tell, to write, to read, to appreciate, because we invest in literature from our humanness, our emotional composition, and we relate to the imagery created with narrative and dialogue that suit our preferences. We are drawn in, over and over and over again, to similar story lines, themes, sequels, because of this human experience–that in sitting down before a book or ebook, we are transcended out of our ordinary lives to magical places that written words create, no matter how similar or repetitive the story, because, after all, we are all living, breathing, stories.
